Cozumel Island hosts several international events such The Iron Man Competition in November. It is considered the second most popular in the world. Cozumel main City is San Miguel and it is the main port of entree to most visitors in the island who travel on board of one of many different cruise ships that make a stop for a day in Cozumel.
To get to see the Island in a more complete way one must go around away from San Miguel, where the most beautiful and unspoiled beaches are. The East side of the island has the most secluded beaches but the Southwest has the most shallow waters and calm beaches. Renting a car and drive around on your own is the most recommended and more fun to freely discover Cozumel. If do so consider visiting Punta Sur Eco-Park; is the most protected part of the island and nature friendly.
